All of below 6 methods focus on getting rid of moles and voles long-term. This means you apply the method once … and then don’t have to bother doing much/anything in the future. While getting rid of moles and voles for good sounds ideal in many ways … the downside is that most of these methods (except Method 1) are relatively expensive. Below table gives a first overview over the 6 methods. This is then followed by a summary for each method.

Method 1:  Garlic Barrier

01a vole control using garlicThis is one of the best methods for getting rid of moles and voles: It is not only effective immediately … but also lasts for years. Unlike most other approaches, it’s almost for free, does no harm to animals and the environment and is totally safe for pets and children. Method 2:  Wire Baskets

It is probably the most effective and reliable method for getting rid of moles and voles … both short and long term. It is totally safe to children and pets … and one of the few methods where no harm is done to any animals. Method 6:  Vibration Devices

This can unfortunately also become quite an expensive approach to mole and vole control … unless you are only trying to protect a small area or a few specific plants. (On the plus side, ongoing costs and effort are close to zero … so you only have to fork out the money once. Thereafter you will be free of voles and moles for years to come.)  Compared to other methods, vibration devices are easy to set up. Method 7:  Getting rid of moles and voles using Sound Devices

Unfortunately they are also one of the most expensive ways of getting rid of moles and voles. (Unless where the area is small or only a few plants need to be protected.) Unlike most other methods, sound devices are easy to set up. Method 12:  Soil Amendment

It’s friendly to the environment and animals, as well as safe to children and pets. Method 14:  Habitat Modification

It is never 100% guarantee and therefore best used as a complimentary rodent control method.
